October?

PLEASE NOTE - I'm trying a new blog site!!  I've been having some issues here, but will keep posting.  Thanks to Amanda - I'm going to try a new blog:
www.residence-on-earth.blogspot.com - so please make this your bookmark!

You know you're behind the times when you still write September on the board...

I can't decide how I feel about Mondays.  I've made myself a mid-year resolution that I won't keep wishing my days away ("Oh, if only it were Friday" "Oh, if only it were 3 o'clock" "Oh, if only it were Christmas")  Before I know it, I'll be 40 and not have even noticed!  So I'm trying to make more of everyday - even if it isn't what I'd like to be doing - this is what I'VE chosen to do, and therefore, I will make the best of it, and enjoy each moment...

We'll see how this attitude goes.  So far, not bad.  But I'm only on week two.

I'm starting to looking into some fundraising option for the Romania trip.  Some people have mentioned setting up an online donation something-or-other.  If any of you know about that, please email me at elysiawvya@hotmail.com .  I'd like to give that a try.

Trying to keep up...

Wow, life picks up fast!

We've recently had John and Jean from Scotland staying with us - we had a fabulous time exploring, hanging out, and simply catching up.  We haven't seen them since our wedding in Scotland, and they are such a blast.  They outwalked me in Toronto!  They are 35 years older than me, and I was ready to sit while they were still trucking away - I hope I'm like that.

Queen's roomie from first year, Amy, and her guy, Kevin (not to be confused with neighbour Kevin) also stayed a couple days before returning to Korea... hope they got there safe...Amy? Kevin?  You alright?  It was fun catching up and reminiscing.  One thing is for sure - after sharing a SINGLE room (aka economy double), there are some things you learn about each other that never change...

In other FANTASTIC and probably the most EXCITING news - I'm all but set on going to ROMANIA this summer!!!  Anyone who has known me a while knows that I've been wanting to go to Romania and work with children there for as long as I can remember (approximately 1998 after the Youth Ambassadors).  After a few long talks with Alan, we decided it was time.  And things have been falling into place ever since!  I found an organization called "Global Volunteers" that's been around for twenty years, and they have a place in Romania where they take volunteers - a "Failure to Thrive" clinic.  Exactly what I want to help with. Anyone else interested?  If not, consider making a donation that I can take to the clinic - more on this later!

As for school - right now it kinds of feels like the smallest part of my life... but I'm really enjoying the kids and I'm glad I've ended up where I am.  It has turned out to be a worthwhile move.

Dog days of summer long gone

Back into reality.  School has started up and there's no time for fooling around...

Mind you, I'm not so sad about that.  I'm really enjoying my new school - the kids are easy to get along with, even the trouble makers who keep me on my toes are a blast.  I'm finding this to be my easiest job yet.  We'll see if I continue to feel that way after the first month...

Alan's "aunt and uncle" (who are really extremely distant older cousins) just left us yesterday.  It's been guests galore this year, and I love it!  Come by for coffee (or herbal tea if you prefer).

Peace and quiet........

Well, Kieran, Alan and neighbour Kevin are all off WAY north...and I have the house to myself!  What have I done during these few days of solitude so far?  Slept in, scrapbooked (and made a mess of the living room and left it there!), and met up with LUMI!!  My friend from Romania arrived at last and yesterday we hung out.  Turned out she was finished earlier than expected, so we went out for breakfast, and then went on a very productive shopping trip - I love "3 for $10" sales!!!

So Lumi took off yesterday - but what I love about all my Youth Ambassador connections, is that we pick up from wherever we are and just continue the relationship.  We had fantastic discussions about bureaucracy, following our dreams, and future plans.

The plan for today includes more scrapbooking and a trip to Burlington to see my parents' new house at last... but I guess I have to get out of bed first...

HE IS HERE!!

Kieran has arrived!  It was pretty funny, especially since I didnt see him come out, he was suddenly right in front of me!

After a speedy drive home, all the arrangements were made.  Neighbour  Kevin had Alan distracted in the house, and I took Kieran around to the backyard.  I then went inside, and prompted the guys to join me for a drink in the backyard (where Kieran was anxiously awaiting Alan`s arrival...)  AND ALAN SAID NO!!!  Poor Alan didn`t want to get bitten by mosquitos.  It took some convincing, and he started to realize something was up, but after he looked out the window and saw that someone was there, the pieces fell into place.

And a happy reunion ensued!!!  It only took them 2 minutes to get onto the topic of computers (figures) but that`s what this was all about.

Welcome Kieran! (Pictures to follow when Kevin emails them to me...)

The day was awesome as well because I won 4 tickets to Canada`s wonderland tomorrow!!!  How perfect - the second love of these two boys is roller coasters!!  (I should say Alan`s 3rd, after me, of course)  So now we are off to the great Paramount Wonderland with Jo tomorrow - what a way to start off a trip - BIG THANKS TO MAURA FROM THE MIX! (I didn`t actually win, but my persistence in letting the phone ring convinced her of my dedication, I guess )
